Introduction
The stunning landscape of Valley of Flowers is a nature lovers' paradise. Situated in Northern India's state of Uttarakhand, this picturesque and high-altitude Himalayan valley boasts of over 300 different varieties of alpine flowers, which have created a nice flowery carpet against a backdrop of the majestic mountains.
Location
Located in Chamoli Garhwal in the state of Uttarakhand, the valley is close to Nanda Devi National Park. From Delhi, Valley of Flowers is around 595 kilometres and the altitude of the place varies from 3,200 m to 6, 675 m.
Best time to visit
If you want to explore the breathtaking beauty of this valley, the best time to visit is between July and August. This is the time when weather is pleasant and the flowers are in full bloom.
Tourist attractions
If you love exploring the vivacity of nature, this valley is a must visit for you. Some prominent species of flowers found in the valley include Saxifrags, Sediams, Lilies, Poppy, Calendular, Daisies, Denthus, Turmopsis, Primula, Dadiculatar, Pontitala, Geranium, Cipro Nepolysis, Holly, Pansy, Zinnia, Petunia, Fox, Caropsis Dynthus etc.. While exploring the valley, travellers may also spot, the Himalayan Musk deer and the yellow throat Marten. Other attractions include Hemkunt Sahib, Joshimath and Badrinath. Last but not the least, if you love trekking, the Valley of Flowers will never let you down.
Accommodation
Visitors are not allowed to stay overnight in the Valley of Flowers and therefore, there is no facility for accommodation within the park. Nearby places, however, have a fairly respectable range of accommodation facilities. There are state-run tourist rest houses at Joshimath and Ghangharia. Both places boast of several tourist lodges and rest houses.
How to reach there
A trek of about 17 km is required to get into the valley. The nearest major town is Joshimath in Garhwal, which has convenient road connections from various railheads, such as Hardwar and Dehradun, both about 270 km from Joshimath. From Joshimath, a vehicle can be hired to take you to within 17 km of the park, to the settlement of Gobindghat. From Gobindghat, a trek of 14 km will take you to the tiny settlement of Ghangaria from where the toll gate to the National Park is about 3 km.
