Dear colleagues,
Today is the day to reiterate the importance of protecting the fragile ecosystem of our green planet. The theme "Many Species, One Planet, One Future" for the year is appropriate at a time when we keep reading of an alarming rate of extinctions in the animal kingdom. With the need for mineral resources growing exponentially, the green cover of once pristine lands is being replaced by a hideous landscape of open mines. As the consumption of such resources increase by an ever aspirational human population, the air only gets more polluted. In the words of Robert Orben, "There's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs there'd be no place to put it all." IndianOil has for over five decades built a formidable reputation as a leader in the petroleum sector in the country. With leadership comes responsibility and our contribution to building a business that revolves around sustainable development is widely recognized. The ecological parks built around our refineries, the green belts around our locations, our investments in globally benchmarked BS IV auto fuels, marketing eco-friendly LPG and high efficiency lubricants besides efforts in alternative fuels like biodiesel, ethanol blends, wind energy and hydrogen fuel have all made a tremendous impact and are held up as examples to be emulated. IndianOil has successfully created nature zones at refineries which attract local and migratory birds and such locations are maintained biodiversity preserves. In this year, the Year of Biodiversity, there is a unique opportunity to stress the importance of biodiversity for human well-being. Without the protective embrace of Nature, our life on this planet could not have been conceived. I would like to urge everyone to carefully consider every action in our personal lives which will contribute to the overall well being of the planet, and maintain the equilibrium of life to ensure that we leave future generation a legacy that they will feel proud of.
