Safety Awareness Meet held at Gujarat Refinery

In an endeavour to promote safety awareness in nearby villages, Gujarat Refinery organised a Safety Awareness Meet and interacted with the Sarpanchs of five villages in its vicinity on July 26, 2010. Mr. K Shivlal, GM (F), Mr. B Arunkumar, DGM (HR) and Mr. MK Dutta, DGM (S&EP) were also present during the occasion.

While addressing the village representatives, Mr. P Sur, ED (I/c), Gujarat Refinery, said, "Such interactions assist the Refinery to understand the apprehensions of residents residing in the vicinity. When the Refinery was constructed, the area was away from the city with not many people, but today the city has extended to surrounding areas with dense population.Safety awareness amongst the residents is important for their own benefit as well for the benefit of the Refinery." He familiarised the team of sarpanchs with the various projects undertaken by the Refinery and its safety related facilities.

Mr. Sethurathinam, ED (T), also shared information about the safety process systems and risk analysis study conducted by the Refinery before setting up new plants. The session comprised of a detailed presentation, which apprised them of the safety handling systems of the Refinery. The presentation also covered the techniques like disaster plan, emergency evacuation methods, etc.

The Sarpanch appreciated the initiative taken by Gujarat Refinery and expressed confidence in IndianOil's management in handling issues related to safety. The village representatives shared their expectations from the Refinery, with regard to infrastructure development like widening of roads, effective waste disposal system, etc.
