- Needle coke technology developed by IndianOil-R&D was licensed to Numaligarh Refineries Ltd. - First licensing of this technology to refineries other than IndianOil.
- 12" size instrumented pig and caliper pig, developed by IndianOil (R&D) successfully tested on Patna-Mughalsarai and Barauni-Patna Sections of BKPL resulting in net savings of Rs. 2.5 crores.
- First ever workshop with organized on "Intelligent Pigging of Pipelines" and also a "Catalyst Management Workshop" to develop policy on management and disposal of Catalysts.
- IndianOil-R&D filed 18 patents during the year. Further 12 patents have been granted in this year including one US patent. Total 92 papers presented/Published during the year.
- IndianOil-R&D for the first time have commissioned a Bio-gas plant & Bio-mass Gasifier plant for initiating Research & development activities of Energy efficient burner & other related research work.
- IndianOil-R&D has taken the initiative to develop an Integrated Driving Cycle for Delhi- an important initiative by research and development centre which will help conduct emission testing based on actual driving pattern.
- A new initiative taken up to study the feasibility for nanocarbon (carbon tubes, beads & fiber) production from low value refinery streams viz., asphalt, deasphalted oil and aromatic extract etc.
- MOU with Saudi Aramco for process of condensate cracking to value added products has given IndianOil headway for future business opportunities
- Consultancy services contract from Kuwait National Petroleum Company for USD 2.90 lacs for reduction in FCC shutdown at Mina Al- Ahmadi Refinery. Successfully completed in association with refinery division.
- 186 Lubricant formulations developed out of which 148 Formulations have been commercialized
- 46 OEMs approvals received from OEM's/ Statutory Authorities/Industries. Some of the major ones are :
- Base Oil Interchangeability" approval for marine shipboard oils from MAN B&W enabling blending and marketing globally.
- Servo Gear HP80W-90 (T) and Super 80W-90 (T), SERVO Pride XL15W-40 from MAN B&W, Germany for factory fill in MAN Force Trucks, Germany.
- Servosyngear 460 RR from RDSO, Lucknow and introduced in electric locomotives for gear case application.
- Servo Agrospray oils from Uttaranchal State Organic Cultivation Agency for use in organic farming.
- Five petroleum products which includes one lubricant i.e. Helicopter Oil and four greases for Aviation application have been accorded the typr approval from CEMILAC, Bangalore.
- Servo Syngear AMP 150,220,320 & 460 from M/s Flender Germany for wind mill applications.
- Servo Marine K-Series M/S MAN Diesel Power India Pvt. Ltd. (M/S Powerica) for DG sets.
- Servo Hycut 146 M/s Escorts Ltd, for hydraulic cum cutting applications
- Servo Superior XEE5W30 API SG Plus by Maruti Suzuki as a Genuine Oil
- Report finalised on work done for Rajasthan waxy heavy crude for M/s Cairn Energy in association with Refineries Division.
- Studies on 27 varieties of tree borne oil seeds of Chhattisgarh carried out to examine their technical viability for bio-diesel production.
- Novel synthetic fuel for potential application for jet fuel developed.
- Approval of Lubricants and Greases meeting H1 category Food Grade Lubricant requirements received from National Sanitation Foundation, USA which provides opportunity for Marketing these lubricants overseas.
- IndianOil-R&D developed multifunctional additives (MFA) for diesel gave best performance among five international suppliers' samples at an Independent laboratory in UK. This product launched by IndianOil (M) in Madhya Pradesh.
- 6th International Symposium for Fuel & Lubricants, a biennial event, successfully organized with participation of more than 500 delegates representing 19 countries. The symposium attracted 128 technical papers besides a 60% increase in number of technical papers from overseas speakers in this symposium. IndianOil-R&D Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by former President of India Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam during the symposium.
- Total of 1542 samples evaluated which include Field Trials, Problem samples, Additive samples etc. Under the Product Quality Monitoring study of Fuel & Lube samples, more than 1500 samples from refineries lube blending plants and selected terminals have been tested for the maintenance of quality of our products.
- Work initiated in collaboration with National Centre of Catalysis Research, IIT-Madras for development of specialized alumina for hydroprocessing application and with IISC, Banglore for boundary lubrication projects.
- Work initiated in collaboration with National Cement Board, Ballabhgarh for environmentally friendly disposal of FCC catalyst waste in Cement Industry.
- 2nd R&D Conclave on Petroleum Industry Organized with participation of more than 100 members from hydrocarbon Industry.
- Awards Received
- IndianOil-R&D received the Petrofed Oil & Gas Industry Award 2007 for "Innovator Team of the year Award" led by ED (R&D), Dr R K Malhotra.
- ADNOC HSE awards 2006 under the special recognition category for "Bio-remediation Technology" of IndianOil (R&D).
- Frost & Sullivan award for Industry innovation and advancement in Indian Bio-fuel Industry.
- IndianOil-R&D received the Highest Security Index Trophy 2006-07 in the cluster of Refinery and R&D Centre.
- GOLDEN PEACOCK ECO- INNOVATION award for 2007 to "Lube Marker System" developed by IndianOil(R&D)
